Silk Screen Garage
Silk Screen Garage is a screen printing shop that believes the quality of a business’s print goods should reflect the quality of the business itself.
Brand strategy & design, logo design, social media branding, print design.
Case
Silk Screen Garage reached out initially in need of a website, but kept mentioning a lack of solid brand foundation to grow the business marketing strategy upon. I suggested starting with a strategic brand to guide the messaging and design of the brand (and website to follow), and the client quickly agreed with this plan!
The business was in need of a professional brand that attracted its ideal clients, gave a polished image to reflect quality, and also expressed its unique brand personality.
Strategy
During our 2-hour brand strategy workshop, we discovered that the problem Silk Screen Garage is solving for the client is not just to produce their promotional items: it’s to provide a quality service that will ensure their business is represented as it deserves to be, and that the brand’s commitment to quality will not just save its clients time and resources but help them say something about their brand to the world.
Brand Visual Identity Design
From our strategy session, we decided that the brand’s core descriptors should be PASSIONATE, CREATIVE, REAL, ADVENTUROUS, and HUMBLE.
Initially we agreed upon a simple refresh of the existing logo (shown below), both the client and I felt the original vintage style fit the brand personality well.
But I ended up custom-lettering a new hand-drawn logo from scratch, transforming the original design into something completely unique.
I always had the color red in mind for this client, given her love of vintage design, and added in the vibrant purple as a nod to the bright colors used in screen print art.
The client was already using the phrase “Where great ideas are printed” in her brand, and it so perfectly encapsulated her mission that I created an overprint-effect design of this phrase alone.
I also worked with the incredibly talented Ashley Loonam to create a custom set of icons for use on the client’s website, social media, and more. These icons represent different services or elements of the screenprinting process.
